Answer Engine Optimization for Shopify

See the revenue ChatGPT already sends your store.

Shoppers are buying from AI assistants today. Shopify records the source on every one of those orders — it just never adds them up. AEO Tuning does, using the order history you already have.

AI assistants sent you at least 189.10 USD

7AI orders 75.9%Orders with source data 83Orders scanned
AI assistants 7 Google / Bing 22 Other known source 34 No source recorded 20

Real output from a bookstore we measured. The grey slice is why we say at least — Shopify captured no source for those orders, and we will not guess.

The blind spot

Your analytics says direct traffic. It was ChatGPT.

This is not a rounding error — it is the reason most merchants believe AI sends them nothing. ChatGPT strips the referrer header on most visits, but it still tags the link. Tools that classify traffic by referrer alone file the whole session under “direct”.

What referrer-based tools see
referrer: (empty)
source:    Direct / none
verdict:   not AI

The order is real. The attribution is lost.

What is actually on the order
referrer: (empty)
landing:   /products/…?utm_source=chatgpt.com
verdict:   AI assistant

In the store above, every single AI order matched this way — not one had a referrer.

How it works

Three passes, no tracking script.

Nothing is injected into your theme and nothing is written to your store. The data already exists; the app reads it.

1

Measure

Reads your order history and matches each order against the traffic-source fields Shopify stores. Results appear immediately — no waiting for new data to accumulate.

2

Audit

Fetches your live storefront the way an AI crawler would and checks ten things: bot access, robots.txt rules, JSON-LD, Product schema, identifiers, price in raw HTML. Run it a hundred times and you get the same answer.

3

Fix

Scores every product on the signals AI systems consume, ranks what to fix first, and exports the list as CSV with a direct link into your admin for each item.

A word about llms.txt

Most AEO apps sell you a file nobody reads.

llms.txt is the headline feature of nearly every AEO app on the market. A study of 137,000 domains found 97% of those files were never fetched by a single bot. We do not generate one, and this site does not serve one.

What AI systems actually consume is the same thing search crawlers consume: your pages, your structured data, and a product identifier that ties an item to a real catalogue entry. That is what the audit checks, and it is why the app leads with money rather than a score out of 100.

Before you install

What this app will not do.

  • It reports a floor, not an exact figure. Shopify does not capture a source for every order. Those orders are held in a separate bucket and excluded — never quietly counted as “not AI”.
  • It will not match Shopify Analytics or GA4, and the app tells you exactly why on the same screen as the number.
  • It does not measure “share of voice”. Asking an AI the same question three times gives three different answers; we tested it. Building a metric on that is building on sand.
  • It never reads customer names, emails, phone numbers or addresses. Order totals and traffic source only — and the app shows you the underlying orders so you can verify it.

FAQ

Questions worth asking.

How far back can it look?

Sixty days on install. Shopify limits order access to the last 60 days unless an app is granted extended access, which requires review of how the app handles protected customer data. That request is in progress; the window widens automatically once it is granted.

Which assistants does it detect?

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and Gemini, matched by referrer host, UTM parameter, or the source field Shopify assigns — whichever is present. Orders arriving via Google or Bing are reported separately, because some of those may be Gemini or Copilot and that cannot be proven.

Does it slow down my storefront?

No. There is no script, tag or pixel. The app runs server-side against the Shopify Admin API and fetches your public storefront the same way any crawler would.

What does it cost?

Measurement and the audit are free. A paid tier for bulk catalogue fixes is planned; the app is explicit inside the interface about which parts are not built yet.
